The Davenport Hotel has been famous since its grand opening in 1914 in Spokane, Washington.  It was the first hotel with air conditioning, housekeeping carts (designed by Louis Davenport), a central vacum system, accordion ballroom doors and Crab Louis (named for Louis Davenport). It opened with 405 guest rooms each supplied with hot and cold water and fresh drinking water delivered through 30 miles of pipe.  It was and is the grandest of hotels built in a mission revival style with an abundance of gold leaf, crystal, ornate wood carvings and antique furnishings  Guests visiting the most famous hotel in the west include Amelia Earhart, Mary Pickford, Clark Gable, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and almost every American president of the 20th century.
